Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. There is no verse in the Bible that says “Peter you are a rock”!
The verse reads like this:
“You are Peter; on this rock I will set up my church. The gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” – Matthew 16:18
The so-called “rock” is Peter’s true conviction. Peter is rightly convinced that “this rock” – “Christ the Son of the living God” – means that Christ will build the church.
Christ was called the rock by Peter’s conviction.
Peter said,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus said to him:” Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! (Matthew 16:16)
The Church of Christ was founded on the true foundation of “Christ the Son of the living God”!
“All drank the same spiritual food. They all drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from the spiritual stone that followed them. It was the Christ.” (1 Corinthians 10: 4)
“Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion – a chosen and precious cornerstone. He who believes in it will never be ashamed. It is proud of you who believe; For those who do not believe, the workhorse has become the cornerstone of abandonment. It would be a crumbling stone for them and a rock for stumbling blocks. (1 Peter 2: 6)
“He who hears these words of mine and obeys them, will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.” (Matthew 7:24)
“Nothing can be laid except that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3:11)
“You are the foundation of the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets; Christ is the cornerstone of this foundation.” (Ephesians 2:20)
